Celebrating 10 years of Community Spaces

10 years of laughter on playgrounds. Of first skates on wobbly legs. Of exploration. Of discovery. Of community pride. 10 years of play, growth and connection.

This year, LBG Canada member Federated Co-op Limited (FCL) is celebrating 10 years of creating community through their capital investment program Co-op Community Spaces. The program is administered by FCL on behalf of the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) across Western Canada and has been successful because of the partnerships created between the local Co-ops, their recipients and the communities they serve. Since 2015, 189 projects have been funded with $13.5 million to support recreation, environmental conservation and urban agriculture.

FCL and local Co-ops within the CRS are committed to ensuring that communities across Western Canada are set up for success and continue to play an integral part in bringing communities together.

“Co-op is committed to investing in our communities, and to 10 years of creating spaces that will live on for years to come is something we can all be very proud of,” said Heather Ryan, Chief Executive Officer at FCL.

This year’s Community Spaces recipients mark the 10th year of helping protect, beautify and improve spaces in communities across Western Canada. In 2024, Community Spaces supported 14 new projects with $1 million in funding.

From community gardens to food education, these projects are impacting the lives of so many. You can check out all recipients and their stories here.
